NCAA to allow eight-man officiating crews in all FBS conferences

If they so choose, every FBS conference will be allowed to experiment with having eight-man officiating crews next season.

(Man, so you mean to tell me I have to split my vitriol, derision, and infantile rage eight separate ways? I better start practicing now if I want to be in tip-top shape when next football season begins.)

The Big 12 was the only conference to use eight-man crews during the 2013 season. Big 12 officials coordinator Walt Anderson told CBS the experiment was a success:

“They feel like it’s something that was a very successful experiment last year. It’s very well-supported by other coordinators. They want to open it up to any conference. (The extra official) had a much better idea to allow appropriate substitutions for the defense. It benefited the offense when appropriate and benefited the defense when appropriate.”

So if you’re one of those losers fans who likes to blame every loss on the officials, know you’ll have to buy some extra stamps and envelopes for your death threats.*

*(Please do not send death threats to officials. It’s not their fault your team is awful.)
