Report: South Carolina Gamecocks' Ronnie Martin to transfer

According to a report from GoGamecocks.com, South Carolina Gamecocks’ cornerback Ronnie Martin is leaving.the program.

Ronnie Martin will transfer from South Carolina, according to a source.

The cornerback appeared in one game last season, would have been a senior in 2014 and in line to compete for a spot in South Carolina’s secondary this coming season.

Martin signed with the Gamecocks twice, once out of Spartanburg High School in Spartanburg, South Carolina in 2011 and again out of Georgia Military College in 2013.

In 2011, Martin, who was considered a 3-star recruit according to 24/7 Sports’ composite rankings, chose the Gamecocks over offers from the Illinois Illini, LSU Tigers, Maryland Terrapins and Nebraska Cornhuskers, among others.

However, he did not qualify academically, which is why he had to attend Georgia Military College. He enrolled in school in January in hopes of quickly climbing the depth chart. That did not happen as Martin only appeared in one game for the Gamecocks last season.

No reason has been given for Martin’s transfer, but playing time likely played a factor.
