John Hancock Financial issued an announcement Monday revealing some changes to the John Hancock Elite Athlete Team for the Boston Marathon.
Withdrawals from the elite field include Moses Mosop, Dathan Ritzenhein, and Jeffrey Hunt. Additions include Mathew Bowen, Abdi Abdirahman, and U.S. record-holder Ryan Hall.
In the announcement, Hall said he’s thrilled to be in the marathon field:
“I am incredibly excited to participate in this year’s Boston Marathon. After watching the tragic events that unfolded at last year’s race and knowing the resilience of both the running and Boston communities, I knew this year’s race was going to be a run of redemption that I am eager to be a part of. This year’s race will undoubtedly be the most historically significant marathon in Boston’s storied history.”
Hall has experience running the Boston Marathon, having competed in the event three times. He finished third in 2009 and took fourth the following year. He again placed fourth in 2011, but in the process he set the U.S. record with a blistering time of 2:04:58.
This year’s race will be held on April 21.
