In the flurry of coverage surrounding guys like Andrew Wiggins, Jabari Parker, and Joel Embiid, Arizona freshman forward Aaron Gordon has been lost in the shuffle by many people. Fortunately for both Gordon and the Wildcats, though, his play is peaking as March arrives.

Gordon has been named by CBS Sports as the Wayman Tisdale Freshman of the Week, and his play has been off the charts in recent days. In two blowout wins over California and Stanford this week, Gordon averaged 16 points and 9.5 rebounds per game while converting 12 of his 20 field attempts (60%), and he has now scored 13 or more points in five out of his last six contests.
Obviously, those aren’t “blow you away” numbers, but his season-long averages are solid (12.2 points, 8.0 rebounds per game), and after Brandon Ashley went down with a season-long injury, many people wrote Arizona off as a National Title contender. Gordon is helping to change that with his recent uptick in play, and with regard to the NBA Draft, he is considered to be a consensus top-10 pick.
Early comparisons to Blake Griffin are seemingly out of reach at this stage, but Gordon has recently been compared to guys like Shawn Marion in terms of all-court impact and athleticism, and he’s showing the significant flashes that many expected.
