David Rundblad, Mathieu Brisebois traded to Chicago Blackhawks

The Chicago Blackhawks have acquired defenseman David Rundblad and Mathieu Brisebois from the Phoenix Coyotes for a second round draft pick according to Chris Johnston and later confirmed by Chicago Sun-Times’ Mark Lazerus.

The 23-year-old Rundblad will report to the Blackhawks with Brisebois reporting Chicago’s AHL affiliate in Rockford, according to The Chicago Tribune’s Hawks reporter Chris Kuc.

Rundblad was the 17th overall pick in the 2009 NHL draft by the St. Louis Blues and was later traded to the Ottawa Senators where he was an instrumental piece in their acquisition of center Kyle Turris.

He has eight points in 38 career NHL games, so don’t expect him to have an immediate impact for the Blackhawks this season as they attempt to win their second straight Stanley Cup and third in the last five years, but it gives them a young blue-liner with some upside.
