NFL Rumors: Jared Allen not ruling out re-signing with Minnesota Vikings

The Minnesota Vikings brought on a defensive-minded head coach in Mike Zimmer but they may be losing one of their best defensive players in Jared Allen. Minnesota failed to negotiate with Allen before the franchise tag deadline and refused to place the tag on him, which means one of the Vikings most iconic players is hitting the open market.

But while the Vikings seem poised to lose Allen to someone willing to pay him a boatload of money, a return to Minnesota isn’t as unlikely as it seems. According to Ian Rapoport from NFL Network, Allen is testing free agency, but isn’t ruling out the Vikings as a possible 2014 destination.

This isn’t surprising, as Allen hasn’t been a free agent before and hasn’t really found out his market value. Teams like the Oakland Raiders and Atlanta Falcons will no doubt have interest in Allen but it sounds like returning to the Vikings is something on Allen’s mind and something we should all consider.

I wouldn’t mind him coming back for the right price, but he’d have to accept a more situational type role. I think he would with Zimmer calling the shots. Still need to see about getting younger at DE first. Griffen and/or Johnson should be first DEs I’d try to sign, Allen would be fall back option after he see’s what his value on market is.

Time to move on. Yes he has been phenomenal during his time here.I wish him nothing but the best on his future endeavors. The age and price are far too much of a turn off. Its time to get younger at our most important positioms. Would rather have Griffen, Robison and a couple young guys for depth … Cb is the most glaring need on defense and DT.. Its not as far off as most think. The new scheme will prove that as well.

I’m not sure he’s going to get the money he’s expecting. If he does more power to him, all the best. If not he’s certainly welcome here.
