The Minnesota Vikings are holding out hope that they’ll be able to bring back Jared Allen in the offseason but those hopes may lead them to heartbreak as it appears the star defensive end isn’t as willing to re-sign with the team as was indicated yesterday.

While Allen and his agent hardly promised the Vikings that they’d be coming back in 2014, they didn’t rule the Vikings out as an option. On Wednesday, Allen noted that he’ll be looking to sign with a contender who will give him playing time.

There are a few teams like the Atlanta Falcons and New York Giants who could make a run at adding Allen as well as the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and New England Patriots. There are options out there for Allen but finding a contender and finding a contender willing to play you a lot is a tall order for a serviceable yet aged defensive pass rusher.
