The Montreal Canadians have acquired All-Star winger Thomas Vanek from the New York Islanders in exchange for a 2014 2nd round pick and a prospect. The deal was first reported by Doug MacLean.
The Islanders acquired Vanek back in October for Matt Moulson, a 1st and a 3rd round pick with hopes that playing with John Tavares would be enough to convince Vanek to re-sign with the team. Unfortunately for GM Garth Snow, Vanek rejected a contract extension off before the NHL Olympic break, and was then forced to try and deal the Austrian scorer.
