NHL Trade: Ottawa Senators acquire Ales Hemsky from Edmonton Oilers

After the blockbuster trade that sent Ryan Callahan to the Tampa Bay Lightning for Martin St. Louis, the Edmonton Oilers have gone ahead and made yet another trade before the deadline. According to Bob McKenzie from TSN, the Edmonton Oilers have traded Ales Hemsky to the Ottawa Senators fora pair of draft picks.

The deal seems to make sense for both sides, although Oilers fans will be sad to see a staple like Hemsky leave for another team.

Ottawa picking a veteran skater and expert scorer like Hemsky up from the Oilers means that the Sens are primed for another deep run in the Stanley Cup Playoffs and are serious now more than ever to put a winner on the ice.

The issue with this deal for Ottawa is that the Senators aren’t making the playoffs this year, which makes this deal a real head-scratcher.
