The NHL trade deadline is right around the corner with just hours left to go until teams can no longer make moves, and that means we’re seeing a flurry of activity on the rumor circuit. One name being kicked around to almost every team is New York Islanders sniper Thomas Vanek, who has been linked to teams like the Minnesota Wild, Los Angeles Kings and San Jose Sharks.
According to Islanders beat writer Chris Botta, we can add the Montreal Canadiens to that list.
The Montreal Canadiens might be in on Thomas Vanek. #told

The Habs have some youth they can move, but they may be reluctant to sell high on a guy they may not be able to re-sign. A move to Montreal would mean the Habs are confident that Vanek would re-sign, but there’s nothing that can guarantee such a thing at this juncture.
Vanek is a lethal scorer and he can command top dollar on the open market this summer. That’s an enticing prospect for Vanek and signing with the Canadiens might not be high on his list.
