Former Clemson Tigers wide receiver Sammy Watkins is the consensus top wideout in the 2014 NFL Draft class, but just how good can he be at the next level? According to one of the most respected draft analysts in the game, Mike Mayock of the NFL Network, Watkins is one of the “best wide receivers he’s seen on tape in the last decade.”
Mayock added, “Because his combine was so good a couple weeks ago, I think all he’s going to do is catch the football (at Clemson’s pro day Thursday), and if he doesn’t get hurt, he’s a top-10 pick.”
A few of the top wide receiver prospects of the past few years have been Calvin Johnson, A.J. Green and Dez Bryant, so Mayock is saying Watkins can be one of the best wide receivers in the entire league.
With his talent and skill set, it would be shocking to see Watkins slide outside of the top ten picks and it would not be a surprise if he went as high as the top five.
You want an elite talent at the top of the draft, and Watkins is definitely that.
