Throughout the past 48 hours, there have been numerous reports that the Chicago Bears and long-time wide receiver/return man Devin Hester will be parting ways in the offseason. On Wednesday, Hester confirmed on his Facebook page that he would be leaving the team and reiterated those comments during an appearance on the NFL Network.

“From my knowledge, I know that Chicago wants to go a different route with me,” Hester told the NFL Network. “All I can say is thanks to the fans for their support. They’ve always been great to me. Always been loyal. I couldn’t have played for a better city than those guys. At the end of my career, I do want to retire as a member of the Bears.”

The Bears declined comment on the situation, but the writing is clearly on the wall.

While Hester has never been able to become a true threat as a wideout, he has established himself as one of the best kick returners to ever step onto an NFL field.

For anyone looking to bolster their return game this offseason, Hester will be an intriguing target.
