The Carolina Panthers are trying to figure out what to do with wide receiver Steve Smith. There were reports that the Panthers could look to cut Smith to clear cap space, they haven’t reportedly asked Smith to take a pay cut or restructure.

From Pro Football Talk:

"A league source tells PFT that Smith hasn’t been approached by the team about taking a pay cut, and another source confirms that Smith and [Panthers general manager Dave] Gettleman didn’t talk when they were in the same room yesterday for Jordan Gross’ retirement press conference."

During an interview with Josina Anderson about his meeting with Gettleman and he vaguely discussed his future with the team.

“I am working out and doing all the things as I am a Carolina Panther,” Smith said. “That’s where I am. And I’ll continue to move forward until I am told otherwise. … It’s a business and I understand that, and ultimately decisions aren’t up to me.”

Smith did say earlier that he isn’t ready to retire though.

“Today?” Smith recently said to Tom Sorensen of the Charlotte Observer.  “No, I’m not ready to not play today.
