The UFC last year exclaimed that they would attempt to hold 54 events in 2014, which is about 20 more than the previous years. The UFC’s not so secret motto was ‘World Domination’. While it is a bit of an extreme statement, the UFC clearly has global expansion on their mind.
Today, the UFC announced that on May 31st they will be holding two separate events in different parts of the world. The UFC will head back to Germany for the third time when Berlin hosts a Fight Night event on May 31st. If you recall, the 31st is also the date for the TUF Brazil 3 Finale headlined by the coaches battle between Chael Sonnen and Wanderlei Silva. That event will be in Brazil, but the location is still to be determined.
Executive Vice President and Managing Director of UFC EMEA, Garry Cook, discussed the UFC’s Berlin card: (Courtesy of MMAJunkie):
We are incredibly excited to announce this event, and it is fantastic news for the many UFC fans throughout Germany and the rest of Europe. We are delighted to be returning to Germany in May and visiting Berlin for the first time. Germany is one of the leading world superpowers in sport and to be able to host a UFC Fight Night to our passionate German fans will be an honor.
This will be the first event in Germany since UFC 122 which was headlined by Yushin Okami’s win over Nate Marquardt.
