New England Patriots linebacker Brandon Spikes appeared on the NFL Network Friday morning and he gave absolutely no indication that he plans on returning to the team once he officially hits the Free Agent market next week. While he didn’t completely rule out a return, he did cite that both he and the organization might be in need of a fresh start.

"“I would never say never — everybody (says) you never want to burn a bridge,” he said of returning to New England. “But I just feel like we’d both sides would benefit from a fresh start.”"

There were rumors of a bit of a rift between Spikes and the team last season when he was oddly placed on the injured reserve list, but Spikes insisted that there are no issues with his health and he’s ready to contribute to somebody immediately.

He also addressed the criticisms that he can’t play all three downs, a criticism that he shot right down.

"“I feel like I’m a three-down player,” Spikes said. “I know a lot of people know me as a run-stopper, but I’ve got great coverage skills, I can cover better than you think. Given the opportunity on third down, I delivered every time. It’s on tape….I led the team in tackles this year, that just goes to show you when I’m on the field, I’m a very efficient and effective and productive player.”"

Spikes was drafted by the New England Patriots in the second round prior to the 2010 season.
