In a disappointing turn of events at the IAAF World Indoor Championships in Sopot, Ajeè Wilson failed to qualify for Sunday’s final in the women’s 800 meters .
The 19-year-old Wilson, who took home first place at the 2014 USA Indoor Championships in Albuquerque last month, finished fourth in her heat Friday with a time of 2:02.90. Her time was a full two seconds slower than the time she recorded in Albuquerque, a discrepancy she said she couldn’t explain:
“I don’t really know what happened. It just kind of got away from me. I got a little too comfortable and when they (the leaders) went, I couldn’t go with them. I need to be more aggressive and confident in myself. I didn’t have that there today and it reflected in how I did.”
Chanelle Price, the other representative for Team USA in the event, fared better than Wilson, advancing to the final thanks to a time of 2:01.19.
We’ll have more results and news from Sopot throughout the weekend, so stay tuned.
