Sometimes you can pass off a poor Spring Training performance as just working on mechanics and stuff. Sometimes, you have to call it flat-out bad.
Right handed pitcher Joe Blanton was on the hill for the Los Angeles Angels as they faced the Colorado Rockies in Spring Training. The resulting line was not pretty.
Mike DiGiovanna of the Los Angeles Times has Blanton’s final line at 3.1 innings pitched, 8 hits, 7 earned runs, one walk, two strikeouts, and FOUR home runs. Two of those home runs were to Rockies’ short stop Troy Tulowitzki, described by some in attendance as ‘mammoth’ shots.
The home run ball was a problem for Blanton last year. He gave up 29 bombs in 132.2 innings. Blanton is an incumbent starter for the Angels, but with the additions of Hector Santiago and Tyler Skaggs, Blanton could be fighting for the fifth spot in the rotation.
