On Thursday, it was reported that the TCU Horned Frogs were out of the running for the services of former USC Trojans QB Max Wittek, which means that the Texas Longhorns are now the leading candidates to land one of the former top recruits in the nation.
Scott Wolf of Inside USC echoed this sentiment on Thursday.
Texas remains the leader for Wittek and Hawaii remains under consideration. The fact Texas is a better football program appeals to Wittek, who believes he can start there. I have stated I believe Wittek should go to Hawaii, where he would probably have a better chance of starting.
Wittek recently visited Hawaii, and wasn’t exactly turned away, however the allure of Texas might be too much in the end.
The only issue with the Longhorns is playing time. Wittek will have to beat out two very capable quarterbacks in David Ash–who started the 2013 season before going out with a concussion–and hyped-up sophomore Tyrone Swoopes, who had his redshirt burned by then head coach Mack Brown.
But, if Wittek ultimately thinks that he can live up to his high school hype in Austin, then that appears that’s where he’ll ultimately end up.
