Professional sports is a business built on the ‘what have you done for me lately’ adage.
And in the case of Albert Pujols? Well, he hasn’t done much.
The future Hall of Fame talent has struggled during his tenure with the Anaheim Angels, dealing with a nasty case of plantar fasciitis which has made him look all but human, a far cry from his days with the St. Louis Cardinals.
One player who hasn’t looked human is teammate Mike Trout. The young Angels outfielder is experiencing a historic start to his career and has put up far superior numbers to Pujols in the last two seasons.
So when Albert was asked if he could put up Trout-like numbers this season, he didn’t take too kindly.
“The only guy in baseball who can match the numbers I’ve put up is Barry Bonds, and someone is actually asking if I can put up numbers like Mike Trout?
“Are you freaking kidding me?”
Pujols went on to suggest that while he’s aware of what Trout has done, he himself has done such for 14 seasons.
