2014 will be the final season that we see Derek Jeter on a baseball diamond as a member of the New York Yankees, this much we already know. What we don’t know, yet, is whether or not Jeter will be able to get the full season in with the injury concerns he’s been mounted with the past few seasons. But, according to the Yankee legend, that shouldn’t be an issue as he told Hal Steinbrenner that he’s currently in the best shape of his life.
In Jeter’s retirement call, Hal Steinbrenner said he said, “I know everybody says this, but I feel like I’m in the best shape of my life.”

Of course, you wouldn’t expect Jeter to say anything else, so as to not draw even more media attention to himself than he already has since his retirement announcement that he made on his Facebook page. Jeter has always put the Yankees organization before himself, so he’s not going to drop any sort of potential health issues into their lap.
Still though, for the sake of seeing one of the legends of the game for the final time this season, you hope that he’s telling the truth.
