The ‘rumors’ of Carmelo Anthony leaving the New York Knicks to sign with the Chicago Bulls may just be gossip, but the whispers are starting to put doubt in the ears of the Knicks brass.
That’s the word from ESPN’s Brian Windhorst who says there is growing worry within the Knicks organization that Carmelo Anthony may not return after he opts out.
After months of projecting a confident stance that Anthony would remain with the team into the future, doubts have crept into the front office and the prospect of Anthony leaving this summer has become worrisome, according to league sources.
If there’s any silver lining for the Knicks, it’s that there simply aren’t that many places that could afford Carmelo and even fewer teams that he’d consider playing for.
Yes, the Miami Heat, Chicago Bulls and potentially Los Angeles Lakers are all serious threats, but the Knicks have the advantage of money on their side.
Still – sounds like it’s nail biting time in the Big Apple.
Going to be a rough few months.
