Greg Cosell, executive producer of the NFL Matchup and senior producer of NFL Films, went on 740 The Game to discuss the upcoming 2014 NFL draft. He called the group as a whole “average” but did say that Central Florida quarterback Blake Bortles was the best of the group.
Cosell was more critical of Louisville’s Teddy Bridgewater and Texas A&M’s Johnny Manziel. Even though Cosell called Bortles the best, he said he even has some mechanical issues and needs to work on his “sequencing,” something that is coachable.
These aren’t exactly new comments, he had previously said something similar on the Ross Tucker Football Podcast.
“I would say he’s more of finesse thrower than a true power thrower at this point, but I think there’s a lot to work with, with Bortles,” Cosell said. “I think ultimately he’s a pocket passer who can execute boot action. He can extend plays and he can run effectively if that’s what you want to do. So, I think that he’s someone I would look to as, given time, he could be a quality NFL starter.”
