Every single movie that has ever been made has at one point or another had to construct some sort of setting for their picture. Whether this set is small or large, there is a tremendous amount of work that has to be done to make sure that everything is just perfect. This brings me to my question, what do you do when the set you are creating is an ark? In the latest featurette for the upcoming film Noah, we take a look at all the work that went into making the set look so spectacular.

This is a story that has been told many times before, each of them slightly varying from the other. Here is look at the synopsis for the latest film courtesy of

The Biblical Noah suffers visions of an apocalyptic deluge and takes measures to protect his family from the coming flood.”

You will not believe the sheer size of the construction. The physical ark used in the film is approximately 55 feet tall by 85 feet wide and approximately 165 feet long; however, the version you will see in the film will be digitally extended to about 500 feet long.

Some people think of the ark as a ship, but it really wasn’t your conventional ship. It is actually more of a box. There is no mast, sail, or anything like that as the vessel wasn’t really meant to travel as much as it was to simply survive the storm.

Here is a look at the latest featurette from the film Noah featuring the construction of the ark.

The film is being directed by Darren Aronofsky, who most notably directed both Black Swan and The WrestlerRussell Crowe will take on the iconic role of Noah himself. Noah also stars Emma WatsonLogan LermanJennifer Connolly, Anthony Hopkins, and many more.

Noah is scheduled to be released in theaters on March 28, 2014.
