Ubaldo Jimenez goes two strong for Orioles

In what some perceived as a “panic” move to make a big free agent splash, the Baltimore Orioles signed Ubaldo Jimenez to a 4-year, $50 million contract. Today, they saw what they were getting.

In a Spring Training game against the Philadelphia Phillies, Jimenez looked very impressive. Over 2 innings, Jimenez showed impressive command of his off speed stuff, striking out three Phillies, and retiring all six batters he was scheduled to face. He only threw 25 pitches, 17 for strikes; this included a 6-strike, 9-pitch second inning before he gave way to Brian Matusz.
