Welcome to the final part of our “Beginner’s Guide to MLS,” and by now, you should be pretty well-prepared for the upcoming season. After all, you know the league’s history, the prime match ups, and the teams. But now, it’s time for you to learn all about the big men who make it all happen: the stars, i.e., The Kobe Bryants and Aaron Rodgers of MLS. Below are a list of the top 11 players you need to know about going into the season, each accompanied by a general comparison to an athlete in another major sport to give you an idea of how they perform on the field. I tried to keep the comparisons close to each player’s play style and age. I also had to resist my natural urges to throw a bunch of stats at you, since this is a beginner’s guide, and I don’t want to overwhelm you with numbers you may or may not understand just yet.
