The Louisville Cardinals ended the regular season on Saturday with a tremendous performance beating the Connecticut Huskies 81-48. The victory put the Cardinals in a tie with the Cincinnati Bearcats for the lead in the American Athletic Conference.
After the game, Cardinals head coach Rick Pitino spoke about the one-sided victory.
“It was great that we played that kind of defense and it’s why we have established so many great memories. The guys just played great basketball at both ends. They are a special class because, for four years, they totally did things for all the right reasons. They are throwback people. They are humble guys.”
Pitino also refuted the notion that this game was a statement to put the rest of the nation on notice.
We are just trying to win. We don’t ever make statements because it is all about matchup’s in this game. We don’t really care what other people think. We won a championship and another conference this year in a really tough league, especially at the top. The thing is we are so focused we don’t care about making a statement for other people to think.
