College Basketball Player of the Year: 2014 John Wooden Award finalists announced

On the final Saturday of the 2013-14 college basketball season, the finalists for the 2014 John Wooden Award, recognizing the nation’s top college basketball player, were announced on College GameDay, and there is a deep group of talented youngsters included in this year’s group.

After a long season, however, many expect to see Creighton’s Doug McDermott walk away with the trophy easily, but you could make a case for probably any one of these guys on the list as they’ve all had breakout seasons, warranting their appearance on the list.

Here’s a look at the entire grouping for the 2013-14 season of John Wooden Award finalists via CBS Sports.

One notable absence is that of Kansas freshman Joel Embiid who was left off the list following his unfortunate brush with the injury bug this season.
