Dre Brown commits to Illinois Illini

The Illinois Illini landed a big commitment on Friday when 3-star running back Dre Brown gave his pledge to the Illini.

Brown, a 5-foot-11, 190-pound recruit who was a special mention 100 News-Gazette All-State selection this past season after he rushed for 1,584 yards and scored 26 touchdowns, was a frequent visitor to Illinois games both during the 2012 and 2013 seasons.

Recruiting coordinator Alex Golesh and outside linebackers coach Al Seamonson served as the primary recruiters for Brown, a three-star recruit who also had offers from Indiana, Kent State, Northern Illinois, Toledo and Western Michigan, along with interest from Iowa, Michigan State, Minnesota and Nebraska, among others.

Brown is considered the 28th best running back prospect, sixth best overall prospect in the state of Illinois and 369th best overall prospect in the class of 2015 according to 24/7 Sports’ composite rankings.

Brown is the second commitment for the Illini, joining 3-star quarterback Jimmy Fitzgerald .
