NFL Free Agency 2014: Miami Dolphins reach out to Rodger Saffold, Jared Veldheer

One of the major priorities for the Miami Dolphins this offseason is to cleanse themselves of the horrific bullying scandal that rocked their locker room in 2013. With Richie Incognito and Jonathan Martin done with the Dolphins, two major starters need to be replaced and the culture needs to be changed dramatically.

That’s why Miami has significant interest in Branden Albert and Eugene Monroe, but two other names are starting to pop up as well. According to Barry Jackson from the Miami Herald, the Dolphins are also interested in Rodger Saffold and Jared Veldheer as possible second prizes.

Per the Miami Herald:

The Dolphins also have expressed strong interest in St. Louis guard/tackle Rodger Saffold — something both colleague Adam Beasley and I are hearing.

And the Dolphins today also reached out to Oakland free agent left tackle Jared Veldheer, who missed 11 games last season with a torn triceps. Veldheer is an option if Miami doesn’t sign Albert or Saffold or Monroe.

Miami broke the bank last year in free agency and it all blew up in their face. This offseason will be spent breaking the bank in smart ways, such as rebuilding the offensive line with veteran Pro Bowl talent. There’s no guarantee that it will be done, but the Dolphins are at least throwing out a wide net.
