The San Francisco 49ers are entering the 2014 season one of the best teams in the NFL, as they’re coming off their third straight trip to the NFC Championship game. But the Niners are 1-2 in NFC title games and they may be looking at some veteran free agent talent to shore up some defensive holes they have to ensure that they don’t lose another Championship game of any kind that they’re in again.
According to ESPN.com blogger Bill Williamson, the 49ers could have eyes on free agent defensive end Jared Allen, who is a Bay Area native and a force that may fit Jim Harbaugh’s epic defensive roster.
I think it’d make sense if the 49ers had a big need there. He’d fit in with the 49ers and I’m sure he’d like to come home. But the 49ers just don’t have a big need for a pass-rusher. The only way I could see this union happening is if Allen came very cheaply.
The skepticism about signing Allen seems to make but it’s obviously something worth bringing up. The 49ers could use veteran talent and if the Pro Bowler wants a legitimate shot at a title, he may come cheaper than his asking price to win a Super Bowl.
