NHL player Dustin Penner gets stuck at grocery store, tweets fans for ride home

The Washington Capitals recently acquired Dustin Penner from the Anaheim Ducks and like any recently uprooted player, Penner needed food.

Hungry, the veteran made his way to a local grocery store but realized there was a problem – he had no ride home.

Now, the most logical idea would have been to call a cab or even car service. But apparently Penner wasn’t in the mood, so he decided to tweet that he needed a ride home and in exhcnage would give away two tickets to an upcoming game.

His mentions blew up – including a tweet from rookie Tom Wilson who said he’d be ‘right there’ to honor his rookie duties. He apparently never showed, though, uber-Capitals fan Emilo Delgado did and helped Penner get home with his groceries.

Now that’s a pretty sweet story.

Though, I have to admit, pretty brave on the part of Penner who likely didn’t read what happened to another D.C. based athlete, former Washington Redskins running back Clinton Portis who experienced a lift from hell.
