No. 21 New Mexico Lobos at No. 10 San Diego State Aztecs final score: Aztecs defeat Lobos 51-48

The No. 10 San Diego State Aztecs were down by 16 points with 12:04 to go in the second half, but they stormed back to take a 44-42 lead with just under five minutes to go.

Aztec senior point guard Xavier Thames led his squad over the final five minutes by hitting a go ahead jumper and two free throws to give State a four-point lead with nine seconds left.

Both teams came into tonight’s game with identical 15-2 records in the Mountain West Conference, and the Aztecs proudly wore their “Top of the Mountain” T-shirts after their 51-48 victory over the Lobos.

It was Senior Night for the Aztecs.  Xavier Thames gave one heck of an encore performance in front of the sellout crowd at Viejas Arena.  Thames scored 23 points along with five steals.  Senior big man Josh Davis collected nine rebounds and netted six points.

New Mexico forward Cameron Bairstow finished with 20 points, seven rebounds, and three assists.  Bairstow is one of the favorites for MW Player of the Year.

The Mountain West Conference tournament will take place next week in Las Vegas.  No. 10 San Diego State will have the opportunity to secure a No. 2 seed in the NCAA Tournament with a win.
