Caleb Mwangangi Ndiku wins men's 3,000 meters at IAAF World Indoor Championships

Facing the likes of Hagos Gebrhiwet, Bernard Lagat, and Galen Rupp, Kenya’s Caleb Mwangangi Ndiku won the men’s 3,000 meters at the 2014 IAAF World Indoor Championships in Sopot on Sunday.

The 21-year-old Ndiku finished with a time of 7:54.94. Lagat, who could have surpassed the great Haile Gebrselassie in all-time World Indoor Championship gold medals had he won, was right on Ndiku’s tail, recording a time of 7:55.22. Dejen Gebremeskel of Ethiopia took third, coming in only 0.17 seconds behind Lagat. Galen Rupp, who finished second to Lagat at last month’s US Championships in Albuquerque, wound up just outside the podium, crossing the finish line a mere 0.45 seconds behind Gebremeskel.
