Orioles' Manny Machado to be re-evaluated

A lot is hinging on the next few weeks for Manny Machado.

The reigning American League Gold Glove winner at third base is recovering from a freak accident at the end of last season and undergoing knee surgery. He has been taking grounders at third base and doing some hitting, but the 21-year old says that baserunning is going to be his biggest hurdle.

Machado is scheduled to be re-evaluated by doctors on March 18th, according to MLB.com’s Britt Ghiroli. At that point, he will learn whether he is cleared for game action or if more rehab is necessary. Even if Machado is cleared, it is unlikely that the organization will put him directly into Spring Training “A” games. He will either participate in simulated games or minor league games. Machado is still expected to be ready on Opening Day.
