300: Rise of an Empire Storms the Box Office Earning the Top Spot

It would seem like the epic battle between the Greeks and the Persians has captivated audiences around the nation as 300: Rise of an Empire stormed the Box Office this weekend earning itself the top spot.

The film, which takes place before, during, and after the fall of King Leonidas and the mighty 300 earned an estimated $45 million at the Box Office this weekend. If you add in the $87.8 million that the film brought in from the foreign Box Office, the film earned an estimated $132.85 million so far.

Right behind the armies of 300: Rise of an Empire is the reboot of an animated classic Mr. Peabody & Sherman. The film, which started out as a segment on the 1960’s animated television series The Rocky and Bullwinkle Show, brought in an estimated $32.5 million over the weekend. The film also pulled in approximately $65.8 million in the foreign markets, which brings the film’s worldwide total to $98.3 million.

Coming in third this week is the latest Liam Neeson action-packed thrill ride Non-Stop. The film took an estimated 46.7% drop from last week when the film occupied the top spot. This weekend, the film earned an estimated $15.38 million. This brings the film’s domestic Box Office total to an estimated $52.12 million in its two weeks of release.

In the fourth position this week is the animated blockbuster The LEGO Movie. The film earned an estimated $11 million over the weekend. This brings the film’s five week total to $224.97 million. If you tack on the $135.6 million that the film has earned in the foreign market, the film has earned a total of $360.57 million. While it has not yet reached the astronomically high bar set by Disney’s Frozen, this is certainly not a bad haul for an animated picture.

Rounding out the Top 5 at the Box Office this weekend is the religious drama Son of God. The film pulled in an estimated $10 million over the weekend. In the two weeks the film has been released, it has earned an estimated $41.49 million.
