When a new video game title is about to release there’s some anticipation that builds up for it, as people are excited to play the title they’ve waited months upon months for.

This type of anticipation will increase especially if the title coming out is exclusive to a select number of consoles.

For Microsoft this is the exact scenario they’re in with Titanfall getting ready to launch soon. Titanfall is the first-person shooter with online multiplayer-only matches from developer Respawn Entertainment that releases for PC and Xbox One on March 11. The Xbox 360 version will hit stores two weeks later.

A good way to understand how the game progressed from the initial idea to its current state is to look at art work for the game.

The art work allows people to see what the developers had in mind for the game and also their vision in what they hope to achieve.

We can thank Titan Books for publishing The Art of Titanfall, as it provides a look at the concept art of for the game and also some commentary from people involved with Titanfall.

There’s a quote from Game Director Steve Fukuda where he says, “Concept art plays an essential role in creating context, enabling our team to discuss context in consistent terms and move forward. Each piece of art you’ll see in the book gives you a glimpse into that process: the distillation of chaos into something new, fun and relatable.”

The book has detailed photos and descriptions of the three type of Titans players will see in the game and characters as well. The main focus of Titanfall is about the Titans, but the art shows more layers to the game than just that.

Another part of the art book is that it has photos of every type of vehicle in the game with some descriptions that provide more information.

The next part of the art is close up photos with the different types of weapons in Titanfall. They even go as far to talk about how the developers spent time calculating bullet paths and loading sequences to work out the correct bullet trajectory of weapons.

The last part of the art book details the locations and provides information on them. This is great, because it gives you an idea of where the game takes place and what the environment looks like.

It’s really impressive the amount of detail that went into creating this game and the art work definitely highlights this.
