Free agent defensive end Michael Bennett is going to be in for a big pay day when the free agency period opens on Tuesday afternoon, and if the interest he has received during the league’s negotiation period is any indication he will be signed quickly.

While a handful of teams around the league have been showing their interest, the Chicago Bears are said to have tabbed Bennett as their top target.

The news comes from the Chicago Tribune.

Chicago is reportedly hoping that Bennett can replace in Julius Peppers as an edge rusher, so they are in “strong pursuit” of the top free agent defensive end. If Bennett’s brother, Bears tight end Martellus Bennett, has any influence, then the Bears should be considered the strong favorite to land the man who was a key part of the Seattle Seahawks’ Super Bowl winning defense.
