The Tampa Bay Buccaneers had been sort of celebrating the new regime of Lovie Smith for the better part of a month but things got serious over the weekend when he bright and positive Smith began purging the current roster of players he didn’t want to deal with.
Davin Joseph was cut loose and there is the notion that Carl Nicks, Donald Penn and Jeremy Zuttah may be following him out the door as well. Smith didn’t say who will be cut but did mention this weekend that the roster contains players he doesn’t se fitting with the team.
“We have systems that we want to run and this roster wasn’t set up with our systems in mind. Not that it’s going to be that different, but we have some changes we have to make.”
There are question marks all over the roster, from Da’Quan Bowers to Mike Williams and especially Mike Glennon. Smith didn’t say for sure that cuts will indeed be made, but that seems to be a very real option at this point in the offseason.
