The Minnesota Vikings were very much in the free agent quarterback market entering the weekend but they quickly turned that around be re-signing Matt Cassel to a two-year deal before the weekend could even start. Cassel’s deal make him the veteran quarterback Minnesota was coveting and means that neither are in that free agent quarterback market.

Cassel hasn’t spoken directly about his contract but did go out of his way to note his excitement about returning the Vikings and what the new coaching staff can bring.

Per the Pioneer Press:

"“I’m ecstatic,” Cassel said. “I’m super excited about being a Viking. … I’m excited about the new coaching staff as well.”"

Cassel very much didn’t have to re-sign with the Vikings, so his excitement isn’t empty. He was drawing interest from the Buccaneers and Texans heading into the free agent tampering period, but decided to return to Minnesota. The Vikings need a guy like Cassel and they now have him to lead the team into the future — for now.
