NBA Rumors: Knicks allegedly asked Phil Jackson to become coach

Could Phil Jackson be the next coach of the New York Knicks?

Not likely.

Jackson (according to the rumor mill) is said to be leaning towards accepting his job offer from the New York Knicks as a member of the front office (capacity still unknown), but apparently Jackson was offered far more than that.

According to SportingNews, the Knicks allegedly offered Phil Jackson the head coach job.

The notion that the Knicks—who reportedly also asked Jackson to take over as coach—would consider a hiring like that of Jackson without the consent of Anthony has raised some eyebrows. So has the past criticism Jackson has issued about the “clumsy” Knicks roster, especially the pairing of Anthony and Amare Stoudemire.

Jackson (who has previously said he would no longer coach) apparently declined the offer, but still an interesting tidbit.

If he does happen to take the front office job and things don’t go as planned, does he pull at Pat Riley and return to the sidelines until the ship is righted?
