Are the Miami Dolphins interested in free agent safety Jairus Byrd?
One would assume so given Byrd is among the prized players available, but according to the Miami Hearld’s Adam Beasley, the Dolphins said interest in Byrd might be nothing more than a ‘smokescreen’.
Pump the brakes on the Jairus Byrd-to-Miami talk, people. I’m hearing that’s a smokescreen.
Allegedly, Byrd’s ‘people’ (read: agents, etc) leaked information to the NFL Network to report such an interest between the two sides in effort to drive up Byrd’s already high price tag.
And while agents bumping up the price of their free agents isn’t exactly a new practice, it’s a little odd that Byrd’s people would feel the need to do such given his interest around the league.
It’s possible they simply aren’t happy with the offers Byrd has been given so far and wanted the cash-happy Dolphins to emerge as the ‘leader’ for his services, though, that’s simply speculation at this point.
Regardless, the ‘potential’ interest leaked (serious or not) and that was the idea behind the report.
