The Pittsburgh Steelers feel they could use some help in the secondary, which is why they’re reportedly interested in Nolan Carroll.
Per Jason La Canfora:
Steelers are among the teams who have inquired about free agent CB Nolan Carroll
Of course, Carroll probably isn’t much of an upgrade for the Steelers, so the interest is a little odd.
The veteran cornerback spent last season with the Miami Dolphins, starting 12 games for the Phins in the process. However, he routinely found himself on the wrong end of the play, chasing down a receiver who had just burned him moments prior.
It’s not known if the Steelers would be looking to add Carroll as a starting defensive back or as a rotational defensive player, but neither is likely the best fit for Pittsburgh who could certainly do better in free agency.
Of course, it all likely comes down to price. Pittsburgh isn’t overflowing in cap space to spend on a high priced corner, so if Carroll comes cheap, the team could opt to go that way.
There are better options on the open market though.
