The Cleveland Browns have been looking for a safety to replace T.J. Ward with and it appears that Mike Pettine has found his man. While Jairus Byrd was linked to the Browns because of the connection he has to Pettine, it’s instead Donte Whitner who will be going to Cleveland when free agency opens this week.
According to Browns radio analyst Dustin Fox, Cleveland will be landing Whitner on Tuesday when he’s able to sign officially.
Based on a source close to Donte Whitner, He is likely headed to the #Browns when the signing period begins.

It was rumored earlier in the day that the Browns could show interest in Whitner, but things apparently moved fast. It’s not a done deal yet though, so Browns fans shouldn’t get too excited (or upset, depending on who you are) but it’s looking like a sure thing.
Whitner will be the second safety to leave the 49ers in consecutives years after they lost Dashon Goldson to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in 2013.
