The Tampa Bay Buccaneers purged some veteran talent from their roster this weekend and they may not be done doing so. But while veterans are on the move out of Tampa Bay, so too could they be coming as well. According to Ira Kauffman of the Tampa Bay Times, former Lovie Smith player Charles Tillman remains an option for the Buccaneers thanks to the head coach’s ties.
“Obviously, it makes the deal probably a little sweeter just because it’s a former head coach,’’ Tillman said. “You do know the system, you know the scheme. I think it helps from a standpoint that it’s a former coach, a guy that you like, a guy that you’ve been with for 10 years.’’
Tampa Bay has Darrelle Revis and Jonathan Banks in their secondary already, and adding Tillman could be huge for both the quality of their defensive backs and the future of Banks. Learning from both Revis and Tillman could craft Banks into a superstar cornerback, and the Buccaneers need one of those.
Tillman isn’t a lock to go to Tampa Bay, but we must consider it more and more as free agency gets closer and closer.
