On Tuesday, the Purdue Boildermakers got a commitment from 3-star point guard P.J. Thompson.
The 5-10, 160-pound Thompson attends Brebeuf Jesuit Preparatory School in Indianapolis, Indiana.
According to Thompson, Purdue head coach Matt Painter told him he need to recruit a “more unselfish and tougher player.”
“He told me some things needed to change and those were a couple of things he mentioned,” Thompson told Kyle Neddenriep of the Indianapolis Star. “They feel like my leadership and decision-making can definitely help right away.”
Thompson also told Neddenriep he believes Purdue is the perfect place for him.
“My family and I all agreed Purdue was the perfect fit,” said Thompson. “I’m comfortable with the coaching staff and feel like they have my best interests.”
Thompson is considered the 55th ranked point guard prospect, the ninth best overall prospect in the state of Indiana and the 276th ranked overall prospect in the class of 2014, according to 24/7 Sport’s composite rankings.
Thompson chose Purdue over offers from Ball State, Dartmouth, DePaul and Indiana State, among others.
