The Kevin Kolb era in Buffalo is officially over.

After missing the entire 2013 regular season due to concussion complications, the Bills have released Kolb prior to owing him a signing bonus on Thursday.

The Bills signed Kolb last spring to compete with rookie EJ Manuel for the starting job in Buffalo. However, a knee injury and concussion, that some believed to be career threatening, cost Kolb a chance to start in Western New York.

With Kolb now out of Buffalo, it appears that the Bills will head into the spring/summer with EJ Manuel and Thad Lewis as their 1/2. That being said, don’t be surprised should the team bring in a veteran backup to compete with Lewis and play behind Manuel.
