When TRT was banned from the sport last month, the most immediate ramifications were to Vitor Belfort, Dan Henderson, Chael Sonnen. Belfort was forced to withdraw from his UFC 173 title bout against Chris Weidman, Henderson will be the final fighter to be allowed TRT in Brazil later this month, and Chael Sonnen’s bout with rival Wanderlei Silva is undoubtedly in question as he ponders whether or not he is able to compete.
If Sonnen is forced out of the bout due to the insufficient amount of time his body has to acclimate to training without TRT, Cung Le is willing to step in his place. Le spoke with Ariel Helwani this week on the MMA Hour discussing the potential rematch with Silva (Courtesy of BloodyElbow):
If Chael gets hurt, or decides that he’s not ready for the Wanderlei fight, I’ll throw in my hat. I would love another shot. I have a lot of respect for him. I grew up watching all of his fights in PRIDE. And to fight him, I feel like I didn’t fight a good fight and I know I can do a lot better.
Le has not fought since knocking out Rich Franklin back at UFC on FUEL TV 6 in November of 2012. He has expressed his desire to return to the Octagon, but stays busy as an actor. Le served as Dana White’s character in the recent TUF: China season.
