On Sunday night, Lillard called out Beverley, suggesting that his tactics were ‘irritating’ and while I’m no body language expert, Lillard was clearly upset with Beverley.
Not to be thrown under the bus, Beverley fired back on Monday afternoon during a weekly radio appearance on Sportstalk 790, calling Lillard a whiner.
“Damian Lillard whines,” Beverley added. “I’m not a big fan of that. I don’t go out there and try to start fights with anybody. I go out there and play my game.” […] “Prior to this game, [Lillard] was shooting 29% against me,” said Beverley. “That’s credit to our team defense. We don’t go out there and try to hurt people or hack people. We go out there and be aggressive on defense and that’s what gets us stops.”
Like many elite defenders before him, Beverley plays a tenacious version of defense that often results in frustrating his opposition.
Irritating or not, Beverley has emerged as one of the best perimeter defenders in the league so it appears his ‘tools’ are working, liked or not.
