It appears that Phil Jackson‘s inability to make a quick decision on his future may cost the New York Knicks.
Varying reports have suggested that a deal between Jackson and the Knicks was close while others have hinted the two sides are still far apart on a deal.
Regardless, close or not, it appears the Knicks will have competition in their efforts to hire the legendary coach.
According to Steve Kyler of Basketball Insiders, the Cleveland Cavaliers and Detroit Pistons are possible landing spots for Jackson.
More than one league source cautioned that while the Knicks are way out in front on Phil Jackson publicly, they are not the only team with Jackson’s ear on a possible front office job. The Detroit Pistons are said to be very much in the mix and the Cleveland Cavaliers have at least reached out, although their interest is somewhat muddied at this point.
Odd as those destinations may sound, keep in mind that Jackson does have a somewhat close relationship with Detroit Pistons owner Tom Gores and has worked as an unpaid consultant for the Pistons (and Gore) recently.
