NFL Free Agency 2014: Tampa Bay Buccaneers in 'serious discussions' to sign Michael Johnson

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers are looking to make serious improvements this offseason and those improvements seem to be starting with Michael Johnson. According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, the Bucs are in ‘serious discussions’ with Johnson and that seems to imply that a deal will be struck when free agency opens on Tuesday afternoon.

Late on Monday night it was noted by Jason La Canfora from CBSSports that the Buccaneers appeared to be frontrunners to sign Johnson and Schefter’s report takes that notion a step further.

At one point it appeared that the Minnesota Vikings were the frontrunners to sign Johnson but their extension handed out to Everson Griffen changed that and drew the Vikings back. Tampa Bay had been in the conversation for Johnson at that point but immediately took the lead to land him.

A deal isn’t done, nor was one publicly agreed upon, but it looks like Johnson is on his way to Tampa Bay and the Buccaneers splashy free agency is now officially open.
